I am looking to spend up to $2000 for the right bike. I am looking for a 600 or something close. Has to be a Street bike. I also might be interested in a salvage if the price is right. I live in town so if you know someone or have something let me know !!!! Thanks

I think you should get a 1980 XS650 Cafe racer.

Billy, I hope you aren't suggesting a ZX6R as a starter bike.

it would be like suggesting a zzr as the first bike, which isn't to bad but he might want to change the sprockets back first.
but don't let that scare you off, there's lots of us on here that can help change them back, and its a cheap fix.

There are 600s and then there are 636s. A 636 will do a roll-on wheelie in first gear, so no, it is not a good starter bike. Might as well get a TL1000. http://www.wildcatriders.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11955

I think this is the zx6r that became the zzr600. I would still reccomend changing the gearing to stock so it won't want to wheelie as easy. But my vote would go towards a ninja 2fiddy or an sv650 so I still be more new rider friendly.

I miss my old sv650, I wish I wouldn't have sold it. It does everything well, and from 0-70 it's pretty close to an i4 600 in accelration, after that not so much. I sold an 02 with 16k on it for 2750 but I've seen them with higher miles close to 2k. You can get the Suzuki gs500 and gs500f's for really cheap too as well as katana's. The naked ones look the best in my opinion though.

yea, thought the 02's where just 6's didn't realize they were 636's, there's already enough info on here for you to read about starting small, that anything I can say about it has already been said.

636 started in 03. 02would be what became the zzr... great bike not the best starter bike but if you have some one with half a sence oz of common sence on it they would be fine using it as a starter... but an 03-06 zx6r "636" yeah bad idea but so much fun

I got the ZZR for my first street bike. with stock gearing very controlable the best thing to do is take the MSF rider course before you get in to deep. the Ninja 650 is a great bike with very good manners and good power. Both the ZZR and Ninja 650 can be found around your price range.

livewellandfree wrote: Billy, I hope you aren't suggesting a ZX6R as a starter bike. this statement has bothered me every since I have read it, I have been on this site a few years and every year a new guy or gal comes on and we beat him or her down with what bike they otta buy, then all of sudden the end up buying what they want. I know we try to help influence there choice but we also shouldn't be putting a guy down for trying to sale his bike for around the price the guy was wanting to pay. What I am saying is maybe the person interested in the bike purchase already has a dad at home telling him the bikes we suggest, so we should ease up alittle on the newbies and also on the people that have there bikes for sale. Now get back on topic.
