Has anyone seen anything for sure on license plate lighting? I've heard mixed things on whether or not you have to have em.

Your liscence plate must be illuminated in KY.

That would be a dick move to give you a ticket for that since 50% of the cars aren't illumintated and 90% of bikes.

They just use it as a good reason to pull you over to see if you have been drinking.

If thats the case.. im pulling my speedo off right now.... but bicycles can get speeding tickets too and they dont have speedometers.

My speedometer on my bike read 0 for about a year, and in the back of my head I always thought i could get out of one by saying that it broke on the way home or something. I guess I'll never know since I fixed it though.

Make sure the plate is mounted in the proper position. I got busted last night by state police cause of my undertail kit license position.

Some of these regs have changed...you now have to have a high and low beam headlight and turnsignals. I've been looking for a way to title and register a race bike from Japan.

Just to bump this a little:

My buddy Ben and I where both pulled over on Versailles by Officer W. Greer (Badge:42809) for no muffler, signals, hi/low beam, license plate light, mirrors. I had expired tags (off of another bike, I guess he thought the 78 KZ750 was a 85 Honda Rebel, cause that’s what the ticket says). I knew all of this, but I didn’t know that my license was suspended because of an out of state ticket (FL) getting extradited. Lucilly he understood and let me not go to jail. Did impound the bike though...

Long story short, Greer told us that they where told to crack the whip on bikes with inadequate equip. I got out of all of it in court this week with a bill from a shop saying that the inadequacies where fixed and some other fishy paper working, but this was lucky. Thanks Jessie :) I'm thinking of actually adding all of this functionality back to the cafe bike since they where told to watch us. His beat is Versailles road area between Alexandria and MOW. He picked us up turning off of Alexandria headed towards a river run on Harrodsburg.

PS, the signals and lights stuff is new as of JAN 07. We made him show us the book. It reads something like: must have adequate signaling devices for l turn, r turn and pass (high beam). I still contest that the license test presents legal hand signals as adequate means of signaling, but he did not. I meant to ask the judge, but I was too busy trying to be nice and not piss her off.

Ummm, does anyone actually use the high beam (or the pass button) for passing?? Just wondering because I sure don't.

This is from the AMA. BTW AMA is a good outfit to join if you're not already a member.

AMA needs to update their data for our laws then cause they still say no signals are ok

as for me i never use high beams to pass with in a car or on a bike,,,, i always get the @zzhole old F*&k that putts along doing 25 in a 55 zone and when you goto pass they all of a sudden become a nascar driver,,, i which point i try to "pit" them

I use the high beam once I get out to the side where I can pull the trigger. I hit a 4" rock at 70 mph because I didn't have my high beam on. I would have missed hitting it if I had seen it sooner than 50 feet. As it was, I was lucky enough to not drop the bike. Dinged both rims...

As far as requirements go, I love my turn signals and wish my brake light was brighter...

lane splitting will land you in jail for reckless driving, just in case there was any doubt.

Even in stopped traffic? I do that occasionally, not as a habit: but sometimes when I see a gap.

Still not supposed to do it sitting in traffic. If you're being reasonable and just creeping by the cars it's more likely a cop won't bother with citing you. But, I wouldn't reccomend riding at any speed between cars. I've never ridden between two cars, but have pulled alongside them to make a right turn if they are going straight. In heavy traffic I'd like to be able to lane split and get through quicker, but with the way many people drive I can be patient.
